I actually baked and decorated these fashionable gingerbread men last year. I then photographed them all by myself and entered the photos into the Reflections program. The Reflection program is like an art contest the public schools have every year since the 1960s. I won "Principle's Choice."
Giving These as a Gift Can Be Fabulous!
There are many fun ways to dress up the packaging of gingerbread men. One way is to put them into little clear cellophane bags and add a matching ribbon and a cute tag, such as a tag shaped like a top or a pair of pants. This way, the recipient can "change" their gingerbread man's outfit for fun (of course the cards won't be edible)!
Another way to present them is in a gingerbread house! This is what I am doing this year! I could use a real gingerbread house but I found these adorable cardboard gingerbread houses at WalMart that will fit about 4 to 6 four inch high men (and women). Oh, the baby in yellow was purchased from a cake decorating store for about $2 each but the little gingerbread baby was made by me! I used a little tiny gingerbread cutter that came in a set. And the arms that are in different positions, I did that by slowly moving their arms before my mom put them into the oven.
Check out this picture to the right for a sweet example of how to present your fashionable little presents! This little man was tied to a bottle of pink ginger ale and topped with a cinnamon stick. In the pink bag, we added sugar for the rim of the glass (plus my mom dropped a little portable light bulb into the bag to make it extra fancy. The people who received this gift were delighted. They are even still talking about it!
If you would like our special gingerbread recipe and step by step pictures/directions, please reply. If enough people want this, I will happily post them! I will also show you the gifts I make this year if anyone would like me to.
